+Introducing...Betty

I name thee BETTY!

As Anna Wintour said on movie The September Issue (2009), naming a bag is "like naming a child". This part is always daunting. Because once a bag is named, that is it! Naming this one took a bit of thinking. I usually just blurt out the first name(s) I think of from whatever inspired me at that moment. This one had many...Bridget Bardot, Audrey Hepburn, Shania Twain (you know, that video where she wore head-to-toe leopard outfit "that don't impress me much"), Sheena Queen of the Jungle...ok maybe not the last one.

I bought this leopard print fabric, which is microfiber (100% polyester) and so soft to the touch, a few years ago. Working with animal prints can be tricky. They can easily look cheesy. I wanted to make sure I don't use this fabric for a design that is too hoochie-hoochie-mama like because that would be predictable. So when I came up with my new satchel pattern last month, which I've used already for 3 different fabrics...Rimini (Blue), Rimini (Brown), Lucca...I've decided to make a few to see what leopard looks like on a simply shaped bag. AND I LIKE IT!
(Front View)
I added 2 zipped pockets in front.
(Back View)
A wide deep pouch for the back.
(Right Side, Left Side Views)
I used one of my favourite dark chocolate brown solid print fabric for the gussett, top and bottom. I also added cute 12mm round dome purse feet (not shown).

How to wear Betty:
The everyday casual look...It's not in-your-face glam, but glam enough to dress up a simple outfit. The rock glam look...Feisty enough to be fierce. Oh and not to mention she's totally practical!

Totally off topic...here are some famous fictional Bettys.

Betty is now available at Paco+Lupe. Let me know what you think.
